4. Bring Charity Into Allowances
If you give your children an allowance, you can easily educate them into being more charitable people through their allowance. Basically, overtime, you give them money for their allowance, or for chores, talk to them about money they might like to put aside for charity. For the money they put aside themselves, allow them to choose what charity they will support, depending on their own interests.
5. Don’t Make It All About Presents
Over the last few decades, Christmas has become a fest of gift-giving. While it is nice to give and receive presents, that’s not the only thing that the holidays should be about. One of the ways you can educate your child into being more charitable is to take the focus off presents around Christmas. Instead, get them interested in the things they can do to make the celebrations of those around them more special and full of love.
6. Show Them The Charities
While you might have your own preference about the charities that you like to support, both around Christmas and throughout the year, your child might have different ideas. Encouraging them to be more giving isn’t just about getting them to follow you, but rather to make decisions based on their own ideas about charity and who is in need. So, if your child has some money they would like to put to charity, even just a few dollars a month, allow them to choose the charity it will go to. You can help them research, but they should decide.
