Here is how you do a side braid:
Step 1.
Make sure the hair is brushed and no knots or tangles. Part the hair in a side part above the left eyebrow, coming back to the crown of the head. You can do this style without a side part, but it makes for quite a severe look if your daughter doesn’t have a fringe.
Step 2.
Using the Basic Hair Braiding technique, pick up from the top of the left ear and the side part, much like a Double Braid. Continue picking up from behind the ear and then the base of the skull until you reach the middle of the head.
Step 3.
Continue around the head, pulling tight each time you pick up from either the base of the skull or from your part. When you have a longer bit, just make sure it is smooth before you tuck it into the braid.
Step 4.
When you reach the opposite end of the head, you can continue in a plain plait until you reach the end of the hair. Finish with a hair tie and tuck it under so you don’t have a funny looking plait sticking out.
This side braid is very popular at the moment, done low down on the base of the scalp and finished in a long side plait. If you would like to try this, it is just a matter of starting lower down, using longer pickup pieces from the top and front of the hair.
