How many of us have an obsession with shoes? Shoes are pretty; shoes are fun to shop for; and shoes look wonderful lined up in our closet not to mention on our feet. But how many pairs of shoes do you really need? This will vary depending on where you live and what you do but below is a quick guide to help you stay on target when it comes to shoe shopping:
Going Out Shoes
If you do go out at nights, whether it is the occasional night out with the girls or a dinner date with hubby, then you will probably want to put on a pair of heels for the occasion. Going out shoes don’t have to be the most comfortable just make sure they are versatile and can be worn with a number of different outfits. Think black heels, strappy sandals and cute wedges to give you that extra lift. You can probably get away with 1 or 2 pairs of going out shoes.
Work Shoes
If you go to work whether it be every day of the week or only once a week, you will need a good pair of shoes to get you through the day. Make sure they are closed in and comfortable. Ballet flats or shoes with a slight heel are always safe and usually acceptable in all work conditions. However, you may be able to get away with something a little more fancy and fun including wedges, sandals and ankle boots depending on your occupation. You may need 1 to 3 pairs of work shoes depending on how often you work.
Gym shoes
If you hit the gym, the pavement or exercise class, then you will need a good pair of runners. It pays to shop around and have your feet measured properly to avoid any injuries and pain. Experts suggest replacing your runners every six to twelve months depending on often you use them. One pair of runners is plenty. Worn out running shoes make the perfect addition to your practical shoe collection.
All mums need a couple of practical shoes for those errands and running around. If you live in the warmer climate then thongs are always a popular option. Thongs are cheap and can be replaced every couple of months. Other good running-around shoes include; ankle boots, crocs, sandals, flats and converse shoes. Invest in 3 pairs of practical shoes for all seasons.
But They Were on Sale Shoes
Yes, this is a category and it counts. All women are allowed a couple of spots reserved in their shoe rack for those special ‘on sale’ items that may hardly ever be worn, but were too good of a bargain to pass up. Try not to go over five of these shoe types.
So how many shoes are too many? You get to be the judge of that. However, we think that having around 5-10 pairs of shoes in your closet at any time is a good number to aim for. But, hey, if the local shoe shop down the road is having a clearance sale, then who are we to judge?
