Have you ever felt guilty for expressing yourself?
It’s important to be aware of how you go about expressing yourself to others, but there are some emotions you should never feel bad for having.
We’re all entitled to react to our instincts, it’s human nature after all. People tend to blame you for your feelings when they don’t understand them, but there definitely are emotions you should never feel bad for having.
1. Jealousy
When it comes to love, people are fragile. Jealousy is one of the emotions you should never feel bad for having, because it helps you to realise what you want from life. Whether it’s a certain type of partner, a craving for adventure or success or just some of the smaller pleasures in life, jealousy can point you in the direction of your desires.
2. Sadness
Nothing can take away your right to be upset. Although it may be true that there are others worse off than you, it’s all relative. You can be aware of how wonderful your life is while being upset by other aspects of it. And while at least you may not be dying/starving/homeless or worse, your life could also at times be better.
3. Happiness
If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands, if you’re happy and you know it, then you really ought to show it! And don’t let anyone tear you down. Different people get excited about different things. If something makes you smile, don’t question it. Life is meant to be enjoyed.
4. Anger
While it’s unhealthy to let your anger control you, it doesn’t mean everything needs to always be sunshine and lollipops. Life is at times unfair, cruel and demanding. It’s understandable to have moments of anger, as long as you don’t hurt others with it or let your hatred of the world outbalance your love for it.
5. Love
If you fall in love with the wrong person, your family or friends might speak up. While you should hear them out in case they are right, you shouldn’t let them make you feel stupid. The bottom line is you can’t help who you fall in love with. Others may not be able to see who the perfect partner for you might be because they don’t know what you want from a partner or may not know all there is to know about you.
6. Fear
Some people are scared of little things like spiders. Others are terrified of big stuff, like dying. Don’t let your fears make you feel childish. Yes, there are kids who are scared of the dark, but so are some adults. There is no age limit on fear.
7. Lust
Everyone needs to let their lustful thoughts roam free occasionally. As long as you don’t act on them, you’re still being faithful. And really, what’s unfaithful about having lusty time over shoes?!
You have a right to express yourself, don’t let anyone diminish your feelings and never feel ashamed of your emotions. Own them and be responsible for them. Are there people in your life that put you down for feeling a certain way? Or for expressing your emotions?
