As our skin ages, it requires different ingredients and treatments.
Here’s a breakdown of what ingredients to look for in your beauty products through the decades and few a few related products I love!
Skincare In Your 20’s
In your twenties, it’s all about antioxidant protection. Vitamins A, B and C can be amazing in preserving your skin. Around the mid-twenties you can also add a retinol product to help with skin cell turnover.
1. Youth to the People Superfood Firm and Brighten Serum RRP $87
2. Drunk Elephant C-Firma Day Serum RRP $122
Skincare in Your 30’s
If you haven’t already done so in your mid-twenties, this is when you want to introduce a retinol to your skincare regime. As we age, our skin cell turnover starts to slow down, so a retinol-based product will help with that cell turnover and keep the skin looking smooth and fresh. Using a serum containing lactic acid a couple of times a week can help to even out the skin tone and gently exfoliate any dead skin cells. Peptides can also be great for keeping the skin looking youthful, and keep up with your vitamin-based serums.
1. Dr. Dennis Gross Ferulic + Retinol Wrinkle Recovery Overnight Serum RRP $128
3. Dermalist Radiance ALL SERUM Skin Perfector RRP $149.00
Skincare in Your 40’s
Anti-ageing peptides can work wonders on the skin in your 40s and can really make a difference to the condition and strength of the skin. Also, consider introducing a stronger retinol to keep your skin looking great. Hyaluronic acid is also a good option for promoting hydration in the skin, as is lactic acid to keep the skin smooth.
1. Lancôme Advanced Genifique RRP $100 – $210
2. Paula’s Choice Hyaluronic Acid Booster RRP $52
Skincare in Your 50’s
This is when you can introduce growth factors to help with any fine lines, wrinkles or sagging skin. Growth factors help to stimulate the repair of damaged skin, and while they do naturally occur in the skin, as we age the amount that our skin creates becomes less so using a product containing them will give your skin a boost. Also, consider using a lower strength retinol product as the skin can become finer in your 50s and 60s.
1. Paula’s Choice Resist Omega+ Complex Serum RRP $50
2. LA ROCHE-POSAY Hyalu B5 Serum RRP $69.99
Skincare in Your 60’s and Beyond
Using serums that contain a gentle retinol, growth factors and peptides will be your best tools in keeping your skin looking youthful and plump. Introduce a high strength antioxidant serum to really protect against free radicals.
1. Synergie Skin Super Serum + RRP $159
2. ASPECT Extreme B17 RRP $130
There are billions (okay, maybe not billions but you get the idea), of skincare products that fit into every stage of our life. You may find in times of stress other key ingredients need to be added to your routine. This is only a small list of ingredients you can look out for, but its a good start!
