How to Get Blonde Highlights Using Lemon Juice
As someone who has recently gone from a lifetime of dying my hair dark to being blonde (damn those grey hairs making me look like a badger!) – I know personally how expensive it is to go blonde! It has cost me an absolute fortune!
I had forgotten about the lemon juice trick – but it is something I used to do when I was a teenager to get beautiful natural highlights. Now just because this is natural – doesn’t mean that it won’t damage your hair – you will still need to do the treatments and look after your hair after blonding it so it doesn’t just split and look like a birds nest.
What will the results be like?
It takes a few days of this treatment to really lighten up your hair. It’s a good idea to take before and after photos so you can see the progress. The result gives you a really sun-kissed look like below. Very natural. And Vegan!
What You Will Need:
- 1/4 cup fresh lemon juice
- 3/4 cup water
Ensure your hair is dry and dirty (unwashed for a few days). Mix together the lemon juice and the water. Apply the mixture to the parts of your hair that you want highlighted (mids to ends is perfect for that sun kissed look).
Sit out in the sun (don’t forget to apply sunscreen first) until your hair is dry. Rinse your hair with fresh water and condition well.
For maximum effect, you should do this every day for up to a week.
Note: Dirty hair (unwashed for a few days) has build up in the hair which will protect it to some degree from the natural bleach in the lemon.
The Results?
Your hair ends should be lovely and light – with a fresh sun-kissed look!
