The father of a teenager who was killed in a quad bike crash has reminded riders how safety should always be a priority.

Dad Peter Owen has pointed out how wearing a helmet for safety is paramount for riders after his 16-year-old son, Dylan Owen died while riding a powerful quad bike, which hit a tree in Dwellingup, Perth’s south, on Boxing Day.

Dylan, who wasn’t wearing a helmet at that time, was one of three people on the quad bike when the accident happened. He sadly died at the scene while the two others, a 17-year-old and a 40-year-old, are both fighting for their lives and are in critical condition at Royal Perth Hospital.

Peter spoke to 7 News to remember his son with a heart of gold. “Losing Dylan on Boxing Day is going to scar us forever. It’s a memory we will have forever. (Dylan would) do anything to help anyone, heart of gold you know. What happened shouldn’t have happened, but he’s in a good place now,” he said.

Dylan’s friends showed up at the family’s Coolbellup home on Wednesday to pay their respects.

Mr Owen said the loss of his son showed just how important safety equipment is.

“If you go riding on bikes, just wear helmets it’s paramount,” he said.
