I do love mince. It is relatively cheap and nowadays there is so much of a variety.
But like many of us, I get sick of the same old type of mince recipes over and over again. That’s why we have put together a list of cheap and cheerful mince recipes that will save you money but will not be boring!
When you think of mince, don’t just think of beef mince either. Supermarkets are now offering quite a few different mince varieties such as:
- Heart Smart Mince (still beef mince but it has less fat content)
- Chicken and Turkey Mince
- Pork Mince
- Lamb Mince
- Pork and Beef Mince (which is perfect for spaghetti)
Turkey mince in particular is very low in fat and you really can’t taste the difference between turkey mince and chicken mince, so make sure you give it a go!
Remember That Mince is Freezable Too!
Probably my favourite thing about mince is that most meals you make with it can be frozen. So don’t be scared to double or triple any recipes, and pop one or two meals in the freezer for another night. Families are so busy now – that it’s just too easy to be tired and grab a takeaway. So having these meals ‘tucked away for later’ mean you can get a good meal on the table without blowing your budget!
1) Porcupine Mince Balls
If you love meatballs, you will love this recipe – and it is so easy. The meatballs contain uncooked rice, and when you bake them in the tomato sauce mixture, they ‘suck up the flavour’ and expand. They are a firm favourite in my house and it is like a variation of spaghetti bolognese with the boring factor.

2) Cheesy Beef and Macaroni Bake
This is another ‘variation’ of spaghetti that doesn’t get boring. The key is those cherry tomatoes you put on top – they just explore with flavour! We make this for lunch on the weekends quite often!

3) Grilled Gooey Cheesy Rissoles
Is there better food in the entire world than cheese? I really don’t think so! Make sure you choose a really sharp tangy cheese to place in the middle of these rissoles! They are really good as burgers as well!

4) Cheesy Beef Puffs
My boys adore these Cheesy Beef Puffs in their lunchbox, cold the next day at school! In fact, I prefer them cold as well! This is a great way to use up any leftover mince you may have from the night before!

5) Mince Scrolls
This is the ‘souped up’ version of the traditional scroll. The mince keeps its shape and turns a scroll into a meal. They freeze well too so make them in bulk and pop them in the lunch box the next morning!

Yummy and scrummy!
6) Chicken and Vegetable Sausage Rolls
Personally, I think chicken mince makes the BEST sausage rolls – and this recipe hasn’t been one of the most popular on the website for years for nothing! I love having these on hand when visitors come around. Simply delicious!

7) Chicken Pot Pie
Chicken Mince or finely diced chicken breast cooked in a delicious sauce with vegetables and a sheet of puff pastry on top – the perfect Winter Warmer!

Homemade Chicken Pot Pie is the best!
8) Corn Chip Casserole
If traditional taco’s are getting a bit boring – this is a nifty variation. Serve over a tray of cooked potato wedges to make it into a meal. Add some guacamole and sour cream for a true Mexican Fiesta!

9) Golden Bake
This is a fantastically frugal recipe – like Shepherds Pie but using beef mince (did you know that Shepherds Pie is made on Lamb Mince?). Another great recipe when eaten cold the next day!

10) Beef Tortilla Stack
There is no pasta in this recipe. Nope. Instead, we use pita bread or tortillas – and you can’t even taste the difference. Just delicious!

11) Top Deck Meatloaf
A fancy version of Shepherd’s Pie – Although I don’t think I could make this recipe as neat as it is in the photograph.

12) Slowcooker Lasagna
The slow cooker makes the best lasagna as the noodles have all that time to absorb the yummy tomato goodness. This is a good recipe when you have to feed a lot of people. Or if you are catering, you can take the cooked slow cooker Lasagna and serve it from the bowl!
