Don’t like the taste of water, but need to consume it? We all need to drink it and yes it is true what the experts say, we need around 8 glasses a day.
Why do we need to drink it? This is why I like my job. I would not in a hundred google searches think to google, ‘why do we need to drink water’. Did you know our body is approximately 60 percent water? Our brain is 70 percent and our lungs are 90 percent water. And each day our body needs to replace 2.4 litres of water.
If you were stuck in the middle of nowhere I’ve got myself lost, you could live without food for a month. Water, you could only survive a week”¦ and that’s provided you don’t get eaten by a bigfoot first. Lack of water or dehydration reduces the amount of blood in your body forcing your heart to pump harder in order to deliver oxygen-bearing cells to your muscles.
As dehydration progresses, you become clumsy and exhausted. Your eyesight fades and in the last stages of dehydration, you may feel nauseous and begin vomiting. Without water, you will enter a coma and die.
Too much information well that’s just the tip of the iceberg. However I’m not here to melt that iceberg, I’m here to tell you about some fun and delicious ways you can trick yourself into drinking that 2.4 litres every day. Yes, it is all in the mind.
I’d like to be able to say add more rocks with your vodka, have two more cups of tea or even stick your mouth over a sprinkler when watering the garden, however not very sensible and those water researching experts would get there knickers in a twist.
Use these fun tips to get your daily H20 quota (or more!).
1. Get fruity!
Sometimes plain water can taste blah, especially if it’s not the fancy stuff. If you don’t enjoy the taste try infusing your water with all sorts of fruit. Squeeze lemon or lime; mash in some berries for a berry bang or make fruit ice cubes for fun. You’re getting the goodness of fruit and sweet tasting water. Very simple to prepare, mash it up, pour in ice cold water and finish with a straw. Another lovely combo is mint, cucumber and orange.
2. Buy some fancy water
Water is boring if you have to get a glass and get it from the tap. Just the other day I had a friend over, I offered her a glass of water before we went out. She politely said no. I opened up the fridge and offered her a bottle of water, she said yes. Evian, Mount Franklin and Fiji are definitely a motivator to drink more water. Tap water maybe cheaper, but the fancy stuff tastes way better.
