An inspirational mum’s Facebook page is going viral for her positive and raw insight to a preventative double mastectomy, which has seen her risk of developing breast cancer drop from 97 per cent to five per cent.
Amanda Stewart documented her journey on the Facebook page, Cancer, You Lose to help inspire other women in her position to feel proud about their life-altering decision.
The mother-of-two’s posts show scars, detail the procedure and give a realistic insight to the pain associated with a mastectomy, both physically and emotionally.
But it’s Amanda’s humour and light-hearted posts that have attracted the greatest amount of attention, as well as her sexy photo shoot!
As well as inspiring others through her online presence, doctors plan to examine the breast tissue taken from Amanda and her sister and cousins and compare it with tissue from the tumours of their relatives in a bid to identify a possible genetic mutation.
She has been fitted with tissue expanders and the reconstruction of her new breasts is now underway.
Since her story went viral, Amanda has has been inundated with messages from cancer sufferers across the globe.
“I started up the Facebook group Cancer You Lose to let others know that we are not going to let this get us down and to try and help others who are going through the same thing.
“It’s great that my journey is being documented and I able to raise awareness of cell mutations.
“Me, a wee lassie from Carluke, not a Hollywood actress lol.”
